Handling Failures in Human-Computer Conversation

چکیده

Uncertainty plays a central role in the handling of failures in conversation. People manage uncertainty by establishing and maintaining the mutual belief that their utterances have been understood well enough for current purposes, a process referred to as grounding. In this paper, we propose a computational architecture for supporting grounding in human-computer spoken dialog. We delineate four levels of analysis and describe representations and inference procedures for resolving key uncertainties that may lead to communication failures. We illustrate the architecture by reviewing interactions between a user and a prototype spoken dialog system called the Bayesian Receptionist.

A Robust Approach For Handling Oral Dialogues

Present limits of speech recognition and understandi¢,g in the context of free spoken language (alttumgh with a limited vocabulary) have perverse effects on the flow of the dialogue with a system. Typically a non robtt~'t dialogue manager will fail to face with these limits and conversations will often be a failure. This paper presents some possibilities of a structural approach for handling co...

Qualitative and quantitative approaches to analyse reliability of a mechatronic system: a case

The main research intent of this paper is to introduce the use of fault tree analysis (FTA) and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) in conjunction to analyse the risk and reliability of a complex mechatronic system in both qualitative and quantitative manner. The major focus is on handling imprecise and vague information with the help of fuzzy synthesis of information. A complex mechatroni...

Toward a Taxonomy of Communication Errors

Researchers in a variety of disciples such as conversation analysis, second language acquisition, speech pathology, and computational linguistics have classified various types of communication errors that occur between humans, and between humans and computers. In this paper, we attempt to bring together insights from diverse disciplines into a common theoretical framework from which to compare ...

Uncertainty, Utility, and Misunderstanding: A Decision-Theoretic Perspective on Grounding in Conversational Systems

Uncertainty plays a central role in the handling of misunderstanding in dialog. People engaged in conversation typically take a sequence of actions to establish and maintain mutual understanding—a process referred to as grounding. We explore representations and control strategies for grounding utterances founded on performing explicit probabilistic inference about failures in communication. The...

Mobile Robot Navigation Error Handling Using an Extended Kalman Filter

Obviously navigation is one of the most complicated issues in mobile robots. Intelligent algorithms are often used for error handling in robot navigation. This Paper deals with the problem of Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) error handling by using Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) as an Expert Algorithms. Our focus is put on the field of mobile robot navigation in the 2D environments. The main chall...
